District 19 is the largest Little League district in New York which happens to be the epicenter of the pandemic. The Governor’s Office has shared regional guidelines for re-opening New York which includes multiple phases. The New York State on Pause order is expiring May 15th and we believe Little League to fall into Phase 4, recreational. With this, we at District 19 have started to plan a modified season beginning in July.

We cannot stress enough that this situation is evolving and has the potential to change every day as the conditions in the region are monitored. Little League International has cancelled the Little League World Series and Regional Tournaments, while New York State has cancelled the Stateand Sectional  Tournaments, however LL Int has given each district and league the ability to have a regular season at their discretion. Given the current projected timeline we are targeting leagues in District 19 to begin practices July 6th and games on July 25th.  We anticipate the season extending into September to be blended with our regular Fall Ball time.  At the end of this new regular season the District will have a single elimination tournament with each league having the option of participating.

We want to assure you all that the safety of our players, families, volunteers and spectators are our primary concern. This modified season will only happen after District 19 has carefully evaluated the conditions in the area and has consulted with local health officials on our plans. 

There is no doubt that things will look a little different this year.  Each league is faced with challenges on their field availability because they may typically play on school fields or at town parks who may elect that they not be used. There will also be additional precautions in place and new guidelines on how to conduct games.  Regardless, District 19 will support each league to navigate and adapt to changes that allow players the chance to participate in Little League once again. 

As we continue to move forward with this plan, we urge you to reach out to your local league officials on specific details.  Once again, dates will have to remain fluid and if conditions worsen our plans will have to be delayed even more.
